I just finished up my summer mantle yesterday. It's been un-godly hot around these parts, and just looking at the pretty blues and sea shells seems to cool me down. After a couple of trips to Michael's, Home Goods, and a beach in Malibu (I refuse to pay money for sand), I rummaged through our apartment to find things laying around that would fit. And here's what I came up with...
I used Martha's Stewart's blue Liquid Fill paint to dye the jars blue. It was messy and didn't dye as dark as I would have liked, but it's ok. I took the sand from Malibu on my way home from work. The sea shells and drift wood are from Michael's. And the string is part of the packaging from some placemats I bought at Sur La Table. I try to reuse everything.
The coolest lantern ever that I got from Home Goods for $14.99! And of course 1 of the million candles left over from our wedding.
Old jars I had laying around and a rope we found in the storage unit. I put Nate's knot tying skills to good use. I used left over burlap from when I made our wreath.
I found this on Pinterest:
And made this:
Not quite as shabby chic as the original but I'm happy with it. Nate cut up extra MDF we had from when he made the fireplace and I painted.
The "relax" sign that didn't fit now hangs on our wall.
Even our wreath got a summer make-over.
Now we just need to survive the next 3 months of heat!
