Thanksgiving has always been Nate and my holiday. It's the one holiday we've spent together every year since we met. Each one has been spent in a different place with different people. It was crazy to look back on our first thanksgiving in 2008. We spent it in Gramercy Green dorm with his friend Ruiz and my friend Keke. We got a free turkey from someone at my studio who had two, we had no idea what we were doing but somehow managed to make a meal. We ate on pink plastic plates from the Target college collection and thought we were so cool for drinking Bailey's. The following year was spent in San Francisco with the Buckley's and was my first time every meeting Nate's family. The year after that was spent at our friend and my roommate at the time, Ashley's house in New Jersey, and last year was spent in Brooklyn, New York. Last year around this time I remember thinking I wanted more than anything to finally have a home with Nate. To finally be in the same place at the same time for good. And this year, on our 5th Thanksgiving we finally were.
We spent Thanksgiving at home. As per our new tradition, I baked all day and the entire night before, and Nate cooked the bird. I baked a home-made apple pie followed by a banana creme pie with chocolate ganache. The banana creme pie was the beginning of my demise - SO GOOOD. Nate cooked our turkey on the Weber grill, which I was totally skeptical about, but it turned out really good! We had all the fixings. We were able to use the fine china from our wedding and all the beautiful new platters and serve-ware. We were spending Thanksgiving at home, at our home, at last. It was good.
